In the absence of a precise description that includes all credit cards that are referred to as gold credit cards, some general characteristics can be highlighted that are common.
The gold credit card can be part of the bank's ranking of credit cards or ranking of customers. In this case, in addition to their ordinary credit cards, silver, gold or platinum can also be included. Some use other terms, such as "extra" or "premium" credit cards, etc.
A separate category is metal cards, which in addition to certain special schemes are also made of metal, and not of plastic.
It depends on the bank's own guidelines.
It is not uncommon for the gold credit card to be a reward for the bank's customers, and part of a separate customer program. For example, the DNB gold card is reserved for premium customers in their SAGA program. The SAS gold card, on the other hand, has no such restriction, but requires that you have earned a number of flight points from the regular membership or silver level.
To be a premium customer in a bank, you are required to have placed significant amounts in a savings account or otherwise invested through the bank.
In other places, it may be free for everyone to apply, but perhaps with slightly stricter entry criteria than for the card issuer's ordinary credit card. There may also be a higher annual fee with the gold card.
Since gold credit cards are not a protected term, they can vary greatly from credit card company to credit card company. It is therefore important to read the description carefully.
If the gold credit card is to be a more exclusive variant of a standard credit card, it must offer something extra.
In this case, these benefits are very often related to travel. This can be earning flight bonuses or improved travel and cancellation insurance.
We note that benefits such as access to airline lounges and other VIP benefits are most often associated with even more exclusive credit cards than regular gold credit cards, such as platinum.
Here is a selection of credit cards that fulfill the function of a gold card. We haven't gotten too hung up on whether they call themselves gold cards or not, but that it is a collection of credit cards with "that little extra."
Gold credit cards must be measured against each other and against other cards according to the same principles as comparing regular credit cards.
You need to study the benefits offered, and then decide whether this is something you actually want to take advantage of. There is a lot to save on good fuel discounts, but it depends of course on whether you actually drive a car.
If you need time to pay off the credit, the interest rate that is stated is of great importance. The interest costs can exceed the profit from discounts and cashback if you have a constant lag.
You can easily compare the individual credit cards against each other by comparing on this page. Tick the cards you want to compare, and you will get a simple schematic overview of the benefits and other conditions.
A gold credit card may have benefits that you might be interested in. But not all that glitters is gold. By that we mean that you don’t need a gold card just because it’s a gold card.
Look at the benefits and compare them to other cards in the same category, regardless of whether they call themselves gold cards or not. Then you can decide for yourself which cards you need and which is the best credit card for you.
